How Therapy Can Help
Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step, particularly when you're struggling with something that carries so much shame. My aim is to provide a confidential, supportive space where you can speak openly without fear of judgement.
Together, we'll work to understand not only the behaviour itself, but also the pressures, experiences and coping patterns that have shaped it. Rather than relying on willpower alone, therapy focuses on helping you understand why the behaviour developed, build healthier ways of coping, and create meaningful, lasting change.
What We Can Work On
Therapy can help if you're experiencing:
-
Compulsive pornography use
-
Compulsive masturbation
-
Repeated affairs or infidelity
-
Anonymous sexual encounters
-
Paid sexual services
-
Sexual behaviours that feel out of control
-
Shame, secrecy or repeated cycles of relapse
-
Relationship difficulties linked to sexual behaviour
-
Difficulty managing stress, loneliness or emotional overwhelm
How I Work
My approach is practical, collaborative and focused on helping you understand why the behaviour developed in the first place. Rather than seeing compulsive pornography use or sexual behaviour simply as the problem, we explore the role it has come to play in helping you cope with pressure, stress or difficult emotions. Understanding this creates the foundation for meaningful and lasting change.
1. Understand Your Story
Every person's story is different. Together, we'll explore the experiences, relationships and beliefs that have shaped the way you respond to pressure today.
2. Identify Your Yield Point
We'll identify the pressures, triggers and patterns that increase your vulnerability, helping you recognise them earlier and respond more effectively before they become overwhelming.
3. Understand What the Behaviour Has Been Helping You Cope With
Rather than focusing only on stopping the behaviour, we'll explore the role it has been playing in your life. As we understand the need it has been meeting, we can begin to develop healthier and more sustainable ways of meeting those same needs.
4. Build a Life That Needs the Behaviour Less
Lasting change is about more than removing a behaviour. Together, we'll strengthen emotional regulation, reduce shame, reconnect with what matters most to you, and build the confidence and skills needed to create meaningful, sustainable change.
My aim isn't simply to help you stop a behaviour. It's to help you understand it, so that lasting change becomes possible.
What to Expect
Every client is different, so therapy is tailored to your individual circumstances and goals. However, most people can expect therapy to include:
-
Developing a clear understanding of your personal patterns.
-
Identifying the pressures that increase vulnerability.
-
Exploring the role the behaviour has come to play in your life.
-
Building healthier ways of managing stress and difficult emotions.
-
Reducing shame and self-criticism.
-
Strengthening relationships and rebuilding trust where appropriate.
-
Creating a practical plan for sustainable, long-term change.
Is Therapy Right for Me?
Therapy may be helpful if:
✓ You've tried to stop but keep returning to the same behaviour.
✓ The behaviour conflicts with your values.
✓ It's affecting your relationship or family.
✓ You feel trapped in a cycle of secrecy and shame.
✓ You want to understand why this keeps happening—not just how to stop.
